A message from our President, Grace SchesslerGrace Schessler

To Our Women’s League Sisterhood members, prospective members, and friends:

I enjoyed an amazing four days of intense, energizing, exhausting President's Training at the Women's League offices and the Jewish Theological Seminary in NYC in June.  From Sunday, June 7th through Wednesday, June 10th, I had the pleasure of (net)working with my fellow WLCJ Region Presidents from across the USA and Canada.  Together, the 13 of us represent the Conservative Jewish women of North America from coast to coast, including Mexico and Cuba!  Did you know that WL was so wide reaching?  You are a part of something much bigger than the BQLI Region, yet as individuals you are each the most important cog in our wheel.

I urge you to download the brand new WLCJ App onto your tablets and phones.  Vicki Granek, VP of Communications for BQLI and Shabbat Greetings Editor extraordinaire, has given you the step-by-step instructions below.  And, WLCJ in NYC is always at the ready to guide you through the process via a phone call.  Additionally, please "like" the WLCJ Facebook page.  (You search for Women's League for Conservative Judaism). By connecting digitally, you are joining a vast network of Jewish women who are committed to perpetuating Conservative Judaism internationally, who want to support Israel in a way that is inclusive of women and our traditions, and who are interested in personal growth and leadership development.

I also invite you to subscribe to our BQLI Region Women’s League weekly digital newsletter, which brings news about our sisterhoods, BQLI Region and Women’s League. Contact VP of Communications Vicki Granek at vsg99@aol.com to subscribe. If you know of a Conservative Jewish woman who is not a synagogue member, please invite her to join a Sisterhood or to join Women’s League directly.  I encourage you to explore this website as well as the Women's League website (www.wlcj.org).

Behind the scenes this summer, the BQLI Region Executive Committee is hard at work planning our Schedule of Events for 2015-2016.  I look forward to sharing it with you just as soon as we finalize a few more dates.  Anise Parnes, BQLI Region Torah Fund VP, never fails to offer an inspiring and thought-provoking program and I'm sure this year's Torah Fund Kick-Off (TBD October 19th or 20th) will be another winner!

I appreciate all of your programming suggestions and ideas and I hope you take advantage of as many of our happenings as you can.  I look forward to laughing, learning, noshing and growing with you!

B'Shalom,
Grace

Our History and Mission

Women's League for Conservative Judaism, founded in 1918 by Mathilde Schechter, is an active arm of the worldwide Conservative/ Masorti movement.  As an international organization, Women's League for Conservative Judaism provides services to 600 affiliated women's groups in synagogues across North America.  This network links 100,000 women in 13 regions with groups in Israel, Great Britain and South America.

BQLI is the region of Women’s League for Conservative Judaism that includes Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.  It was formed in 2008 as the combination of three former regions:  South Shore Long Island/Brooklyn, North Shore Long Island and Eastern Long Island.  It is the region with the smallest geographical area and the greatest number of affiliated Sisterhoods.

The mission of the region is to serve as a connection between Women’s League and its affiliates and members, and to provide services to strengthen the Sisterhoods/women’s groups.   BQLI helps our member groups succeed by providing training, seminars, general trouble shooting and problem solving as well as networking opportunities for Sisterhood leaders.  Our programs seek to instill the religious ideals of Judaism into the lives and homes of our members, emphasizing Jewish ethical teachings as they apply to individual and group life.  We encourage involvement and participation in contemporary issues on the local, national and international scene.
